Each year I do a reading challenge. It started on Goodreads. Well, they gave me the idea, but I’ve always adapted it for my own challenge.

Basically I take the letters A-Z and find book titles that start with those letters. I’ve done this for years, and I’ve never, ever, completed this challenge. Now, that doesn’t mean I haven’t read 26 books in the year. I just usually read a bunch of others that aren’t on my list. I suppose I could just take the giant list of books that I do read each year and match them to the letters, but that feels like cheating. I like to create my list at the beginning of the year and work my way through them.

I used to add a bunch of series to the list. But I would only choose the first book. So for instance, I would choose Red Rising for R, but I wouldn’t choose Golden Son for G. I thought this would help me read even more books than the 26 because I would want to finish all of these series. This never worked out, because like I said, I’ve never finished this challenge. So then I started finding series and I would place all the books in the series on the list. So Red Rising for R, Golden Son for G, Morning Star for M. But that didn’t work out either because what I found is that I would get into the first book and HATE it, and then I would have like five others that I’m supposed to read. Naturally I wouldn’t want to do that so I would make changes to those books. But sometimes when you read a garbage book, you need a change, so I would start marathoning some TV show and I wouldn’t pick up a book for months.

So now, I try to add books that will complete a series I’m already working on. So for instance, if I’ve read Red Rising and Golden Son, but not Morning Star then that would be my M. And then I try to find stand alone books so there’s less pressure. This year, I tried my best to find books that I had access to on audiobook, whether from the library or YouTube. I just started this a few weeks ago, but I’ve already crossed 5 books off my list and read 10 others. So, we’ll see how it goes.

I am driving to Utah in a couple of weeks, so I will have 3 days in a car each way. Plenty of time for audiobooks.

Here’s my A-Z list.
